ngmoco poaches MySpace exec for social expansion

Games publisher plotting move from iPhone to social networks.

iPhone games publisher ngmoco is planning to expand its activities to the web and social networks, and has hired MySpace's former SVP of business development to do it.

Jason Oberfest has joined the company as VP of social applications, tasked with taking ngmoco's range of iPhone games to the web, while also adapting online social games back for iPhone.

"It's clear that, like the iPhone, social gaming is an essential facet of a next generation games company and Jason will bring a valuable perspective and incredible horsepower to an important segment of our business as we look to expand strategically to the social web," says CEO Neil Young.

It's interesting that ngmoco is expanding in this way before taking its games to other mobile platforms such as Android and BlackBerry.

However, the publisher is already active on the social side of iPhone gaming, having launched its Plus+ community platform, which is being used by ngmoco's own games and those of other publishers.

"We have only seen the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the marriage of social applications and games," says Oberfest. "I am very excited to help build ngmoco's vision as a next generation games company."
