New iPad app simulates Windows 8

Uses Metro-like UI to give Apple the Microsoft touch.

Splashtop is the iOS and Android developer behind the Win8 Metro Testbed app, according to PC World. The firm designed the premium $25 app to give iPad users a break from iOS and a taste of Microsoft's forthcoming OS.

The app simulates the Metro UI, offering the specific Windows 8 tablet swiping features that enable app switching, options access, web page browsing and simultaneous app operation known as 'snapping'.

Of course, there aren't any Windows 8 tablets available at present and while the app doesn't offer camera support, PCW highlights the Testbed as a decent way to trial Windows 8.

However, Apple probably won't be impressed with the Microsoft invasion. Just yesterday, we reported the former may be developing iPad Mini devices for a Q3 release to inhibit the sales of the Windows 8 tablets that are launching later in the year.
