New app download milestones for Outfit7 and Storm8

Want a sign of the times when it comes to app success? Take a look at the latest download milestones for two developers - Outfit7 and Storm8 - who were unknown a few years ago.

Outfit7 is the firm responsible for Talking Tom Cat and a stable of other talking character apps. CEO Andrej Nabergoj celebrated the company's first birthday on Saturday by tweeting that its apps have racked up more than 100 million iOS downloads, and another 50 million on Android.

Meanwhile, Storm8 is more focused on games. According to VentureBeat, the company has now passed the 210 million downloads mark across iOS and Android, notching up five billion play sessions and 18 billion minutes of games played. What's more, earlier in July, the company generated $1 million of revenues in a day for the first time.

Storm8 is a little older than Outfit7 - it was founded in 2009 - but the two companies share a couple of similarities. First, they make a lot of their revenues from in-app payments and advertising rather than from paid downloads. Second, both are targeting iOS and Android, rather than sticking with iOS only.
