NeoMedia: QR code scanning increased by 39 per cent in Q2

Up 119 per cent year on year.

NeoMedia is one of the companies that distributes barcode readers and issues third parties with unique codes for use in marketing campaigns etc.

It posts regular usage updates, and its latest shows QR code scanning in Q2 was up by 39 per cent on Q1, with 1D barcode scanning up 41 per cent.

The firm's NeoSphere platform now enables approximately 75,000 barcodes worldwide, while there are currently 25 million installations of its NeoReader scanning app in 193 countries.

56 per cent of the installations were on Android devices, but Windows Phone 7 and Symbian are also growing - up 19 per cent and 29 per cent respectively.

Laura Marriott, CEO of NeoMedia, said: “All of these figures are positive indications of a growing market. The consistent growth in 2D scanning over the last three months underlines the continued industry importance of QR codes.”
