Promises to deliver exclusive offers on the go to customers.
UK loyalty scheme Nectar has launched its first iPhone apps, offering point offers and other discounts to customers via their handsets.
There are two apps: one branded as Sainsbury's, and the other branded as Nectar - which also includes offers from the likes of BP, Homebase and Hertz.
They'll also let users check their Nectar points balance, and find their nearest store supporting the loyalty scheme. The Sainsbury's app will also offer more info on in-store promotions.
Nectar said research among iPhone owners who have Nectar Cards showed that more than 90% wanted 'exclusive offers delivered to them on-the-go'.
"The new apps represent the first of many exciting mobile developments to ensure Nectar is always relevant for collectors," says Nectar MD Jan-Pieter Lips.

"We strongly believe that the launch of the Nectar app will increase the number of collectors opting into offers and enhance their shopping experience. Furthermore, this new technology provides our Nectar partners with the opportunity to interact with collectors in an innovative and exciting way."
The decision to go with iPhone first is interesting. Sainsbury's rival Tesco launched a mobile shopping app on Nokia's Ovi Store earlier this month, claiming that "a much greater percentage of our core customer base for online grocery have a Series-60 Nokia phone than an iPhone".
Sainsbury's and Nectar have clearly decided to go with iPhone first, in contrast to Tesco's strategy.
The apps form part of a wider trend for retailers looking to do more in-store with apps. For another example this week, see Shopkick's partnership with Best Buy in the US.
