1m added in last three months, but now the company is branching out into... football?
GPS navigation firm Navmii says it now has more than 3.2 million users of its iPhone and Android apps, having added nearly one million in the last three months alone.
Those aren't all paying customers: the company's paid Navmii GPS Live apps are joined by its free Navfree service in its stable. Its growth has been fuelled by launches in new countries and continents, including India, South Africa and Latin America.
According to Navmii, 25,000 people started using its apps in Brazil in their first week of availability, with the apps also in app stores in Argentina and Mexico.
Given that success, Navmii is now looking to spin off into a new area: football. The company has launched a new social service called Sharethematch, which aims to help football fans track matches around the world, while meeting up with friends and checking in to stadia.
"Sharethematch extends Navmii’s skills and expertise in location-based apps into sport," says CEO Peter Atalia. "Football is the most popular spectator sport in the world and Sharethematch enables any fan to come together in one community, online and on the mobile phone, to share their experiences and never miss a thing."

A potentially lucrative pivot, or a dangerous distraction from Navmii's main business? Time will tell.
