Namco's iPhone app downloads hit 23m

Pac-Man has seen an average of 36,450 downloads a day

Namco Networks has confirmed that its App Store releases have been downloaded 23 million times to date. Since the App Store's debut in 2008 the company behind the original Pac-Man has seen an average of 36,450 downloads a day.

Recently Namco has brought a number of IPs new and old to iPhone and iPod touch, including Pac-Man Championship Edition and Ace Combat Xi Skies of Incursion.

Previously the likes of Time Crisis, Galaga and Dig Dug have also made their way to the App Store, and Namco continues to create new IP for the Apple device, such as Garters & Ghouls, Isaac Newton’s Gravity and Solitaire: Deck of Cods.

Only last week Namco bolstered its position in the social networking space with a dedicated Facebook app that lets players sample and purchase the company's mobile games.

Founded in 1955 as a firm specialising in children's rides, Namco is one of the world's oldest games companies. Currently part of the Namco Bandai organisation, it's success on the iPhone demonstrates a considerable ability to move with the times.
