Virtual item gifting and online friend leaderboards a-go-go.
Foursquare and Gowalla might get more hype, but Booyah's MyTown social location game is getting more users: 1.5 million so far, compared to Foursquare's 600,000.
Now the company has updated the app - which is often compared to a real-world Monopoly - to version 3.0, with more social features to keep its players engaged.
Users can now add their friends and compare scores in an online Friends Leaderboard. They can also give and receive virtual gifts - something that could become a key revenue stream for MyTown in the future.
Friends can also view each other's profiles, including the latest real-world locations they've checked into. Messaging is also included.
The new features look set to make MyTown more engaging than ever for its users. Booyah tells TechCrunch that currently, MyTown users average mmore than 70 minutes of playtime a day.
