MySpace to drop subs and go ad-funded on mobile

MySpace has rolled a free ad-funded mobile version, says web site MobiAd.

It claims the ad-funded version will work on all US networks after a successful beta launch earlier this year. Till now, MySpace Mobile has been available only via subscription on AT&T and and Helio subscribers.

The report says ads will take the form of sponsorships and banners at first, but Fox (which owns MySpace) hopes to offer more targeted advertising, including location-based ads, in the future.
