MySpace launches Music Romeo video app for iPad

Promises "endless" music videos.

Social network MySpace has yet to take its MySpace Music streaming music service to mobiles, but it has launched a spin-off app for iPad.

MySpace Music Romeo is free, and made its debut on the App Store last night.

It's focused on music videos, letting users pick a genre or mood, and then serving up a selection of videos from its catalogue.

Genres include pop and hip-hop, while moods include 'chill', 'naughty' and 'partying'. MySpace makes money by showing ads every few songs, as well as from users tapping through to buy content from the iTunes Store.

MySpace is working with music firm We Are Hunted to ensure that the app shows videos from artists who are currently being raved about on blogs and social networks.

"Inevitably if you use this application, you will find an artist that you've never heard of before that you will fall in love with," says MySpace Music president Courtney Holt.

It's apparently the first of several apps to be launched by MySpace in the coming months, as it gears up for a relaunch of its main site.
