Myriad wins app download deal with Sunplus

Aims to put its Java ME software into a range of home entertainment devices.

Taiwan's Sunplus is a tech company that builds multimedia functionality into Blu-Ray players, set to boxes and such like.

Following this deal it will use Myriad’s Jbed CDCA software, Browser V9 and Dalvik Turbo solutions to enhance its home entertainment portfolio in the APAC region.

It expects its first Blu-ray offering to to customers in the first half of 2011.

This is another sweet deal for one of the industry's biggest 'background technology' companies.

Myriad makes browsers, Java engines and more for many of the world's feature phone makers. But it is also in tune to the market for such products outside of cellular mobiles.

‘’Our new arrangement with Sunplus continues to validate the significant market opportunity to deploy Myriad’s Java-based clients into non-mobile device markets, to drive growth in our Device Solutions Division” said Simon Wilkinson, CEO, Myriad Group.
