Myriad acquires mobile social specialist Xumii

Deal to boost company's offering for mass market feature phones.

Myriad Group has acquired the brand, technology and 17 employees of privately-held Xumii, a provider of mobile social networking services based in California and Sydney.

Myriad hasn't revealed the value of the transaction but says it's not expected to have a material impact on revenue or EBITDA for its fiscal 2009.

Yesterday the company launched its widget platform for mass market handsets, with today's deal for Xumii adding IM and messaging-based social networking functionality to its offering.

In short, Xumii integrates a mobile user's phone contacts, social networks and instant messaging services into a single "social phonebook". Users can then simultaneously access Facebook, MySpace, Flickr, YouTube, Google Talk, Yahoo Messenger, AIM and Windows Live.

Simon Wilkinson, CEO of Myriad, said: "The acquisition of Xumii further strengthens our position as the partner of choice for mobile operators and handset manufacturers seeking to add social networking features to mass market phones."
