Mobile crediting is tricky technically, but much desired by marketers as a new channel for brand building, customer acquisition, competition prizes and more.
Providing a monetary credit to end users also solves the long-standing issue of consumer refunds for broadcasters and other content providers - and is clearly preferable to cheque based refunds.
