Now that's a lot of silicon.
ARM says its licensees have shipped ten billion mobile processors based on its IP to date, equivalent of 2.5 for every mobile user in the world.Apparently the average mobile handset shipped in 2008 had two ARM technology-based processors.
More complex smartphones often have four or five functioning not only as application processors, but also in the modem, WLAN, GPS, SIM, camera module and Bluetooth ICs.
Meanwhile, ARM has today also entered a partnership with Dolby to provide high-performance audio processing on smartphones powered by NEON technology.
NEON is designed to enable multimedia applications such as Dolby Mobile to be deployed easily across ARM Cortex processor-based products with maximum efficiency.
