MWC: MusicStation goes to ISPs

Omnifone taking its unlimited subscription music service to ISPs; Sky's already signed up.

The UK firm, which works with Vodafone, Sony Ericsson and others in the mobile space, has unveiled MusicStation Next Generation, to give ISPs and cable companies the chance to offer unlimited access to music and videos via broadband.

Omnifone is positioning the move as an anti-piracy breakthrough, although it's far from being the first unlimited music service on the fixed internet.

UK pay TV giant Sky is one of Omnifone's first ISP customers.

Rob Lewis, CEO of Omnifone, said: “With today’s announcement, Omnifone is offering consumers something better than piracy.

"MusicStation Next Generation gives consumers legitimate unlimited access to the world’s music, in audio and video format, direct to their living room, through set-top box or personal computer, in partnership with their ISP or cable company. Broadband providers can deliver a better music experience; a legal alternative to piracy that differentiates their consumer proposition”.
