Only six per cent of people access the internet from their handsets when 'on the move', says BuzzCity.

Mobile social networking specialist BuzzCity has made some surprising findings in its latest worldwide user survey.

Most notably, less than six per cent of people its polled use the mobile internet when travelling or when outdoors.

Of those surveyed 70 per cent surf the mobile internet from home, while 11 per cent browse while at work.

Users tend to access the mobile internet regularly and often, with 87 per cent more than once daily and half over five times a day.

Eighty-one per cent surf for more than 15 minutes in one session, with 36 per cent logging on after their evening meal.

Forty-five per cent access the mobile internet from a Nokia device.

In terms of context, 16 per cent use the mobile internet for entertainment purposes and ten per cent use it to surf for information.

A third of users would like to use their mobile to top up credit, and the same number again desire the ability to pay for bills (transport, bar or restaurant tabs, groceries, and parking tickets).

The survey was conducted in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America, among users of the 2,000 mobile publisher sites that form BuzzCity’s mobile advertising network.
