First to earn the security certification that meets the SIMalliance Security Guidelines.
Gemalto is claiming a major victory in advancing the take-off of mobile television, with its UpTeq mobile TV SIM card the first to earn the security certification that meets the SIMalliance Security Guidelines. These guidelines apply to Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) Mobile Broadcast Services Enabler Suite (BCAST) Smart Card Profile (SCP) mobile television products.
OMA BCAST is being touted as a globally recognised standard for mobile TV, designed to ease the integration of an end-to-end mobile television system - it specifies a “Smart Card Profile” (SCP), which is the standard SIM-based Conditional Access System (CAS).
Gemalto is moving heavily into the content space as it seeks to make the SIM card key to multimedia delivery.
Gabrielle Bugat, head of the mobile TV business group at Gemalto, said: “The OMA BCAST specification is now ready, and this is the right technological choice for successful deployments. Having met the SIMalliance security recommendations, Gemalto illustrates its commitment to providing products based on standards, and with a high level of security.
