Those data roaming charges certainly add up.
Market watcher Informa says the world’s 900 strong mobile operator community generated $965 billion last year, and will kick on past a trillion for the first time during 2011.
The revs should be $1.14 trillion by the end of 2015.
Informa says data is taking up the slack as voice and SMS peak, with smartphones and USB modems driving the growth.
It forecasts that revenues from mobile data services, including SMS, will grow to $453 billion in 2015, up from just over $253 billion in 2010.
Meanwhile voice will continue its decline. By 2015 voice revenues will have declined in every major global region for the first time ever.
