Operator nets exclusive deal for Brew-based smartphone
O2 will offer the HTC Smart - which is pitched as an 'affordable' smartphone - exclusively in Germany, Ireland and the UK in April, though the device will also be available in Italy with Telecom Italia, Norway (Netcom) and across Europe through the direct channel.
HTC Smart utilises Qualcomm’s Brew Mobile Platform (Brew MP) over which HTC will deploy its Sense UI
Brew MP also provides the HTC Smart with a ready-to-go marketplace of applications and services from a global base of developers and content publishers.
Users will be able to follow their friends’ status updates using HTC Friend Stream, an application that aggregates social communication from Facebook, Twitter and Flickr.
Matthew Key, chief executive officer of Telefónica Europe, said: “We believe this is a key move in our ability to bring smartphones to a far wider cross section of the population."
