MWC 2010: NXP brings surround sound to mobile

New LifeVibes CinemaSound aims to make the soundtrack as good as the mobile movie.

It offers 5-channel surround sound for films, video clips or live performances and can produce full surround sound from any two-channel, matrix-encoded or 5.1 channel input.

LifeVibes CinemaSound also includes ConcertSound EX, which re-creates a 'natural music experience' on both headphones and stereo speakers.

NXP is targeting the software at operators and handset companies, and says the tech can be applied to feature phones as well as the snazzy top-end stuff.

It's an interesting development given Dolby's recent announcements, and the two companies' high profile at Mobile World Congress.
