Music phones set for Spotify buttons?

So says CEO Daniel Ek.

Spotify is looking to deepen its relationships with mobile handset makers, according to CEO Daniel Ek.

"We're in discussions with manufacturers where they even have Spotify buttons - a physical button - on the phone that can play content," he said at yesterday's New Music Seminar conference in Los Angeles.

"That's fantastic. Who knows if it will ever be live - if ever - but just the fact that sort of mindset is coming in very promising for the industry."

So far, Spotify's mobile deals have been more about preloading its app on handsets sold by European operators 3 and TeliaSonera, while bundling its premium monthly subscription in with their data tariffs.

Spotify is currently adding a few thousand paying subscribers a day in Europe, according to Billboard's write-up of the conference.

Ek said that the company remains on track for a US launch soon, and that it plans to strike more deals with ISPs and mobile operators.
