September saw a record 300,000 track downloads from the operator's content portal.
Orange has released its latest quarterly Digital Media Index report, with mobile music downloads and social networking seeing big user gains.Specifically, music downloads from Orange World were up 10 per cent in the June-September period (compared to the previous Nov 2008-January 2008 report), with September posting a record 300,000 tracks downloaded.
Among the other factoids in the report:
- Over 166 million page impressions on average per month from mobile social networking services.
- Broadband dongle subscriptions surge - posting an increase of 2,139 per cent since January.

- 3G customers up by 86 per cent with 1.3 million added.
- Mobile search increased by 30 per cent, with local search up by 100 per cent.
Paul Jevons, Director of Products, Portals and Services for Orange, said: “This latest report reflects a transition in mobile similar to what is taking place on the web – mobile is no longer simply a channel for brands to deliver packaged content in a manner of their choosing."
