Users will be able to start watching while it is downloading.
US mobile entertainment firm mSpot has added a downloads feature to its streaming films service mSpot Movies.
The new feature is making its debut in the version of the service that is preloaded on Lenovo's IdeaPad K1 and ThinkPad tablets. Users will be able to start watching films while they download.
"Anyone who has ever streamed a movie knows how much the Internet connection impacts the experience. Now, you can say goodbye to buffering issues; start watching and downloading the movie in the airport, and continue watching it offline on the airplane," says mSpot CEO Daren Tsui in a statement.
The company worked with Lenovo to develop a new digital rights management (DRM) system for the new feature, using Microsoft's existing PlayReady technology. mSpot claims to be the first company to support this combined streaming and downloading feature for films, as opposed to TV shows, stealing a march on Apple, Amazon and Blockbuster.
