Wants to take on Netflix with cheaper flicks across platforms.
US mobile entertainment firm mSpot has announced pricing changes for its mSpot Movies Club service which it says will make it the cheapest way to legally stream films to a range of devices.
The company says that its credit-based payment system will enable its customers to stream new films for as little as $3, compared to the $3.99 price point used by many of its video-on-demand rivals.
mSpot is offering three pricing plans for the service, which is available on iPad, iPhone, Android, PC/Mac and connected TVs, as well as feature phones. Basic costs $4.99 a month and offers 20 movie credits - up to four films - while Plus costs $7.99 a month for 40 credits. Meanwhile, Premium costs $15.99 a month for 80 credits. mSpot will continue to offer a la carte pricing alongside these subscriptions.
mSpot is making much of the fact that some new releases are available on its service months or even years before they appear on rival streaming services, and is training its sights on popular service Netflix in particular.
We’re finding that many of our customers want to watch new release movies that are not yet available for streaming on Netflix," says mSpot CEO Daren Tsui. "We’ve always competed very well with our new release selection and we’re excited to offer our customers more competitive pricing."
