Mozilla launches Firefox 4 beta for Android and Maemo

Mobile browser gets its next generation version.

Browser body Mozilla has announced that its first Firefox 4 beta for mobile is now available to download, for Android and Maemo smartphones.

The mobile browser includes features from the Firefox desktop browser like Firefox Sync, Add-ons and the so-called Awesome Bar.

Mozilla says the new beta has beefed-up performance and responsiveness, while also offering pinch-to-zoom features.

Firefox has been available for Maemo devices - i.e. Nokia's N900 - for a while now. However, it's appearance on Android is the big news in this announcement.

"Firefox 4 Beta for mobile is significant step forward in sharing a personalized, seamless and encrypted Web experience across devices," blogs Mozilla's Stuart Parmenter.
