Verizon Wireless sends out launch invite confirming debut of hot Android handset.
Verizon Wireless and Motorola will unveil the much-anticipated Droid handset at an event next Wednesday.
That's according to an invitation sent out by the US operator to journalists, promising the launch of "the most desirable phone of 2009".
There's been a steady dripfeed of information in recent days about Droid, which is expected to be the first handset to ship with version 2.0 of Google's Android OS.
Verizon has already launched a hard-hitting ad campaign talking up Droid's merits against the iPhone, based around the features lacking in Apple's handset.
From that, we know that Droid will have a five-megapixel camera and a physical keyboard. We're guessing it may also feature the MOTOBLUR UI that made its debut in Motorola's first Android phone, the Cliq/Dext.

One thing that hasn't been confirmed yet, though, is when Droid will cross the Atlantic to Europe, and with which operator(s).
