Co-CEO Greg Brown says the Razr's success masked a 'brutal reality' for US phone maker.
In an interview with Business Week, Brown explained that "success is one of the biggest impediments to growth. It can be blinding. It can reinforce a historical or traditional way of doing things."
He added that the Razr helped Moto to become inward looking. "We developed an unhealthy hubris that manifested itself in us thinking we knew what was best for customers, as opposed to listening in an unfiltered and unemotional way."
Specifically he referred to a focus on physical form factor rather than user experience.
However, Brown is bullish about Moto's future. "Companies go through cycles. To the extent that this 80-year-old company has resilience to sustain, we will do just fine."
