Moto stays top of US handset market

The rest of the world is a disaster, but Americans still love Motorola.

The beleagured handset giant is still number one in its home country, according to research from Strategy Analytics. It says phone shipments in the US grew five per cent to reach 41.9 million units during Q2 2008 – and that Motorola was its top vendor with 25.8 market share.

Strategy Analytics attributed the rise to attractive bundling schemes from operators and desirable new handset launches. The report also noted that Blackberry achieved double-digit market share in the US for the first time, while LG returned to second position.
