Motorola is preparing a big roll-out for Motocast, its own-brand scrolling ‘ticker’ that offers zero-click access to news and premium content.
Motocast shipped with the RAZR handset in the UK last November, but it was a ‘quiet’ roll-out and the application had to be set up by the user. From April the app will ship on a much wider range of flagship Moto phones and will be pre-installed and ready to go.Motocast will offer users one-click access to content on the handset company’s own HelloMoto website, to marketing messages and to tutorial information on the device itself. As such, it is available only in handsets bought at retail rather than when purchased directly from an operator.
The service is a D2C brand of Motorola’s SCREEN3 technology, which operators can re-brand and use to ‘broadcast’ news, messages or access to content. White-labelled version of SCREEN3 are already is use by Telefonica, Cingular and other networks worldwide.
