Motorola could spin off or even sell its handset unit, as pressure mounts from shareholders.
Poor recent financials have upped the clamour for a re-think and now speculation suggests the company it looking for ways to halt market share losses. Shipments fell 38 per cent last quarter and Motorola lost its global third place in the market to Samsung. The flagship Razr family that sustained Moto through the last few years sold 1.5 million units against 2.5 million projected."We are exploring ways in which our mobile devices business can accelerate its recovery and retain and attract talent while enabling our shareholders to realize the value of this great franchise," said Motorola's new CEO Greg Brown.
