More than one in three iOS devices is 'non-cellular'

That's according to Asymco's calculations.

More than a third of iOS devices sold are only capable of connecting via Wi-Fi, according to mobile firm Asymco.

That's based on an analysis of Apple's announcement last week that it has sold 120 million iOS devices, as well as previous financial filings breaking down its iPhone and iPad sales.

Asymco points out that by the end of June, Apple had sold 59.6 million iPhones and 3.2 million iPads. It assumes that the company sold another eight and four million respectively during July and August.

That would break down the 120 million iOS sales thus: 67.6 million iPhones; 45.2 million iPod touches; 7.2 million iPads.

"More than one in three iOS units in use are non-cellular devices. As the iPad rolls that number could move toward 50%," points out the company.
