More support for new Symbian

Nine more companies have pledged their support for the new open-source Symbian Foundation.

Acrodea, Brycen, HI Corporation, Ixonos, KTF, Opera Software, Sharp, TapRoot Systems and UIQ Technology have now endorsed the re-born mobile operating system. It means that 40 companies have confirmed commitment to the initiative since June 2008. The ten initial board members were: AT&T, LG Electronics, Motorola, Nokia, NTT DOCOMO, Samsung Electronics, Sony Ericsson, STMicroelectronics, Texas Instruments and Vodafone.

In the summer, Symbian was bought out by Nokia which then announced that the OS would go open source. It created the Symbian Foundation to manage the development and royalty-free licensing of the software.
