Handset giant Nokia is accelerating its efficiency drive in light of current economic conditions with job cuts in its Devices and Markets units, Corporate Development Office and global support division.The company says it plans to scale sales, marketing and technology management to match its "pruned" portfolio and reduced global consumer demand.
Nokia will also address surplus marketing activities following its Symbian acquisition, streamline its Devices R&D organisation, and increase efficiency in certain global support functions.
The plans will affect approximately 1,700 Nokia employees globally. The company says it will start consultations with employee representatives about these plans were applicable.
Today's measures are part of Nokia's previously announced plans to adjust its operations in light of the global recession.
