Apple is believed to be in talks with Softbank and NTT DoCoMo about a Japanese launch for the iPhone.
The Wall Street Journal says Apple chief Steve Jobs has met DoCoMo's president, Masao Nakamur, to discuss the deal, but is courting Softbank as well. It suggests that Apple’s revenue sharing demands may be a sticking point, but that DoCoMo remains the favourite to get the deal.Whoever gets the phone, the Japanese experience will be fascinating. DoCoMo does not run a GSM/EDGE network, which has been the platform for iPhone in other countries. Also, Apple does not quite have the cachet in Asia that it does in the US and Europe.
