But mobile money specialist has £78m in the order book and is confident of break-even in 2013.
Monitise is a central player in the mobile banking space. The firm is eyeing mobile payments and commerce opportunities, but currently makes the lions' share of its revenues from hosting platform and apps for financial institutions such as Visa and RBS.
It charges fees for this work, and takes a share for every new customer added (and any cost savings accruing). Currently, its platform conducts 10 million mobile banking transactions a month.
A series of high profile recent deals including partnerships in India and Nigeria, and the extension of existing deals with Visa, RBS and others has made its order book is six times the size it was in June 2010.
Monitise's chief executive Alastair Lukies described 2011 as a 'breakthrough year'. He said: "The main change has been from push to pull. We're no longer out there saying 'here's our platform, try it for a bit', we're now seeing companies actively coming to us.
"...We have built a robust, secure, interoperable bank-grade technology platform that, combined with our world-leading product roadmap, is relevant in all parts of the globe."
