Mondia Media appoints UK MD

Avril McDonald moves from Buongiorno to step up push into English-speaking markets.

Mondia is an interesting one – it traded as arvato mobile until 2009 when it was bought by Mondia Ltd and the Abu Dhabi Group.

arvato was based in Germany and was a major, if low profile, aggregator during the personalisation phase of the mobile content business.

Mondia has ambitions to be an end-to-end mobile VAS company, describing its remit as 'covering the entire value chain from licensing, production and distribution to customer support and billing'.

Sounds a bit like Buongiorno, doesn't it? Which may explain the appointment of McDonald, who was head of biz dev at the company and then at Lumata, when the B2B unit was spun off last year.

She will now supervise operations in the UK, Ireland, New Zealand and Australia markets, reporting to Volker Glaeser, group COO and member of the Mondia Media management board.

Glaeser said: “We are pleased to have won a veteran content expert for our London branch and I am very confident that Avril will help us significantly develop our business in the strategically important English-speaking markets.”

Mondia Media has approximately 250 employees worldwide. In addition to its Hamburg headquarters and the London office, it also has operations in Dubai, Rome, Madrid, Johannesburg, Mumbai and São Paulo.
