Moblyng raises cash and partners with Playdom

Social mobile gaming gets investor dollars.

Mobile games firm Moblyng has announced a $2.65 million funding round, with existing investors Mohr Davidow Ventures and Deep Fork Capital both chipping in.

The company has also signed a high-profile partnership with social games firm Playdom, one of the biggest Facebook game publishers.

Moblyng will create ports of Playdom's games for webOS, Symbian, BlackBerry and Android, filling in the gaps beyond Playdom's current iPhone-focused mobile roadmap.

That includes games like Mobsters and Sorority Life, which will be getting a wider mobile airing.

Social games companies like Playdom, Zynga and Playfish have been cautious when it comes to mobile, dipping their toes in iPhone's App Store, but not going gangbusters on other smartphone platforms.

While that's an opportunity in the short term for companies like Moblyng, we suspect that if smartphone revenues grow fast for companies like Playdom, they'll quickly take these platforms in-house.
