Phone maker formerly known as Sagem rolls out 'Surface UX'.
Having a snazzy UI represents a point of differentiation for OEMs when they are licensing a third party OS like Android.
So the move will attempt to do for Mobiwire what MotoBlur did for Motorola and Sense did for HTC.
More accurately, it will do it for Mobiwire's partner brands. The firm has set itself up as the go-to OEM for brands that want their own phone: it launched the Puma phone last year for example (although that wasn't an Android device).
MobiWire says it will integrate Surface with cloud-based content to help brands to drive user consumption and conversion.
And it's developed a series of patented Surface Apps which act as ‘super widgets’, aggregating relevant content into a series of UI panes that can be defined and branded by the service provider.

Other innovations include:
* Home screen main menu structure – apps can be ‘tagged’ and presented in a tiered menu structure
*A ‘switcher’ for multi-tasking between open apps
* Menu button with personalised shortcuts that remain visible on any pane
“We are already in a post-app world where silos of data are being superseded by an aggregated, real-time, multi-tasking user experience,” said Jerome Nadel, EVP of user experience at MobiWire.
“Surface UX delivers a connected user experience that... encourages usage and exploration, and simplifies conversion to buy services and products.”
Surface UX runs on Android 2.3. The first devices will be available in Q2 2011.
