Streaming TV pioneer adds one million in eight months.
The US firm streams TV on mobile broadband networks and is available on more than 350 handsets across 20 networks including AT&T, Sprint and Alltel in the US. It believes the presidential elections provided a major fillip to adoption.“We witnessed an extraordinary increase in the number of subscribers that tuned into the presidential debates and election day news,” said Paul Scanlan, president of MobiTV.
“There was a 111 percent increase over average daily viewing during the third presidential debate and a 373 percent increase for election day.”
MobiTV launched in 2003 and reached three million subscribers last October, and four million in April of this year. It has raised $130 million in venture capital.
It offers content from CNBC, MSNBC, Animal Planet, USA Network, Bloomberg Television, Access Hollywood, The Weather Channel, The History Channel and more.
