MobiTV appoints new Euro MD

Former Yahoo chief Jan Olin to lead a fresh charge into European mobile TV space.

The appointment signals a change of strategy for MobiTV, which pushed hard into Europe in 2006/7 before withdrawing to focus its efforts on the North American region.

Olin was formery director of biz dev at Yahoo Europe where he was responsible for distribution of mobile services to operators and handset makers. Prior to this, he spent ten years at Ericsson Group.

He will report to Anders Norström, COO of MobiTV, who said; “Jan’s wide-ranging experience in mobile and communications has exposed him to the way operators think and plan strategic deals. He can build both strong commercial relationships in a new market and develop a team that will deliver results.”

Olin will concentrate on licensing MobiTV as a technical solution for delivering streaming TV and video on demand. He won't be licensing content from broadcasters, as was the policy in MobiTV's previous European adventure. That proved untenable given the cultural and linguistic fragmentation of the European market.
