Macworld Mobile to beef up MWC's App Planet programme.
The Macworld Mobile iOS Developer Conference will provide a day's training on the Apple iPhone and iPad platforms, with technical sessions, targeting tools and applications specifically designed for mobile application developers and engineers.
This is a major coup for the GSMA, given Apple's policy of not engaging with industry events.
To be fair, it's not engaging with this either. Instead, the event is being presented by IDG World Expo, organiser of the Macworld expo.
But it still brings the previously missing iOS family into the fold at MWC.
The first App Planet took place earlier this year to give developers practical help with various smartphone platforms.
In 2011, new elements alongside Macworld Mobile will include the Brand App Challenge, a competition focused on creating products for a select number of global consumer brands.
The competition will begin in October with the finalists being named approximately one month before Mobile World Congress 2011.
The GSMA also announced that RIM has again signed on as an official partner for App Planet, and will be focusing company's entire show presence in App Planet. RIM will be hosting an ADC for 500 BlackBerry developers on Tuesday, 15th February, 2011.
Palm will also be an App Planet ADC partner and will be holding a full-day ADC on Wednesday, 16th February, 2011.
The 2011 GSMA Mobile World Congress will be held 14-17 February, 2011 in Barcelona. App Planet is in Hall 7.
