Mobile projector shipments to grow sixtyfold

iSuppli predicts explosive growth for the market as the technology improves and demand transitions from the enterprise to the consumer.

Pico projectors weigh less than two pounds, but some are capable of beaming 50-inch diagonal images on a wall or other surface.

Although they are likely to find initial acceptance in the corporate market, consumers are expected to embrace them for large-sized display of video, Internet sites and applications.

Samsung has already launched its 'Show' handset in South Korea. This employs Texas Instruments’ Digital Light Processing (DLP) projection technology.

Sanju Khatri, principal analyst for signage/projection at iSuppli, said: “The growth potential for embedded pico projectors will be limited during the next few years due to challenges in areas including power consumption, size and manufacturing.
