Startups taking on investment to pursue their app ambitions.
The flow of venture capital into mobile startups shows no sign of slowing down. With a rumoured $300 million round, games firm Storm8 may be at the higher end of the market, but four other startups have also confirmed funding this week.
Taking them in order, social location app WhosHere has raised $1.25 million of first-round funding led by Lightbank. Its dating focus has helped it sign up four million registered users who send 10 million messages a day.
Second, educational games developer Airy Labs has raised $1.5 million from investors including Google Ventures and Playdom founder Rick Thompson. The company makes games for mobile, tablet and browsers, with a focus on young users.
Moving up the scale, digital textbook startup Inkling has raised $17 million for its business turning college textbooks into iPad apps, including interactivity and multimedia features.
Finally, a story to make you sit down with an aged groan and wonder what you've been doing with your life. 19-year-old entrepreneur Cory Levy has raised $1 million in seed funding for his startup One, which plans to release a social location app targeting college students.
