Mobile brought to book

Full-length audiobooks are available to download to mobile phones in the UK.

A new service called GoSpoken allows customers to preview and purchase audiobooks direct from their handsets. The company behind it, Spoken Entertainment, teamed up with the Random House Group to launch at the London International Book Fair in London today.

Fifty Random House Group audiobooks are now available, from authors including Andy McNab, Chris Ryan, John Grisham, Karin Slaughter, Thomas Harris, James Patterson and Sebastian Faulks. McNab, the bestselling author of Bravo Two Zero, is a partner at Spoken Entertainment.

Mobile users should visit www.gospoken.com to browse, purchase and download using WAP billing or mobile PayPal. The service is designed for HSDPA, which can download a three-hour audiobook in around four minutes. A full-length mobile audiobook will usually cost between £7 and £8.50.

GoSpoken also offers a marketing channel which can be linked to all book advertising. Transworld Publishing recently included a mobile text code on posters and in the back of books, which consumers could use to sample or purchase similar content.
