Mobile app market generated $2.2 billion in 1H10

That's from 3.8 billion downloads, according to a new report from Research2guidance

The smartphone apps market generated revenue of $2.2 billion in the first six months of 2010 from 3.9 billion downloads, with the average paid app priced at $3.60.

That estimate comes from Germany's Research2guidance, and compares to the company's estimate of 3.1 billion app downloads in the whole of 2009.

The 1H10 volumes roughly corellate with a forecast from ABI Reseach, which earlier this month predicted 6 billion app downloads for the whole of 2010.

Unsurprisingly, Research2guidance says the explosion of apps stores is responsible for the growth, namely in the form of Ovi Store, Android Market and BlackBerry App World.

The company also sticks its neck out to predict that the next wave of app stores will be niche stores specialising in business or health.
