Mobi Chill mobile content portal goes live

But might it become Notorious for the wrong reasons?

UK firm Notorious Solutions has launched a new mobile content portal called Mobi Chill in beta, offering a mixture of downloads and community features.

Users are invited to create profiles and upload their photos and videos, while rating those of others. However, the site also lets them sell content that they have uploaded, with games, ringtones, wallpapers and themes all available on the portal.

This feature could cause concern for other mobile content firms, though. Nokia's MOSH portal offered similar features, and became a hotbed of mobile game piracy before eventually being rolled into Nokia's Ovi Store.

Mobi Chill's Terms Of Use page stresses that users "may not upload or post any Content on Mobi Chill that is protected by copyright, trademark or other intellectual property rights" unless they have the legal right to do so.

It remains to be seen how well Mobi Chill polices such uploads, and whether it does this well enough to avoid complaints from the rights-owners of any content being shared unlawfully.

Notorious says Mobi Chill will target global users, with plans to support additional languages and run country-specific promotions in the near future.

Meanwhile, there's a dynamic user rating system which tracks member activity and assigns each user a rating, which then lets them compete for prizes. Notorious is also keen to stress that there are no subscriptions or hidden fees on the site.
