Miso is the Google-backed US firm that's trying to turn TV viewing into a Foursquare-type experience. It's a bit like GetGlue.
Now it's teaming up with Showtime’s serial killer drama Dexter, which kicks off its sixth season in a week, to enhance viewers' experience with push notifications, facts about the episode, polls, alerts when friends tune in and more.
This is the first live service to come out of Miso's recently concluded deal with set top box maker DirecTV.
Therefore, users need to have a subscription to DirecTV and use the Miso iPhone app for the features to work.
The app automatically detects what channel and show the viewer is watching, removing the need for the manual check-ins that are used in Miso's regular app.

Miso has partnerships with TV networks including Fox, Showtime, NBC, TNT, Starz, QVC and Comedy Central.
