MIG buys micropayments specialist Zaypay

Purchase of Dutch firm extends MIG's micropayment footprint to 44 countries.

UK-based Mobile Interactive Group was one of the pioneers of the first wave of mobile payments, when transactions were based around reverse-billed SMS and operator billing.

This business was mostly targeted at operators and content providers. But now, with the rise of apps, there's a pressing need to target developers too.

That's what this acquisition is all about. With the addition of the Zaypay platform, MIG will offer developers an SDK for Android, Facebook and the web, including premium, voice and messaging micropayment options.

MIG will continue to operate Zaypay as a standalone business.

Barry Houlihan, CEO of MIG, said: “MIG’s vision for Zaypay is to build a one stop shop for online and mobile monetisation solutions to merchants, online billing providers and developers globally.

"We understand that developers are driving our industry now and Zaypay is a platform that has been built by developers, for developers.

"Our aim is to build stronger relationships specifically with the developer community, to provide them with a frictionless payment system that’s tailored to their platforms and to further understand and support their requirements around monetisation on an international scale.”
