Research reveals 194.5 million connections in 19 countries to the end of June 2008.
The new report, from Arab Advisors Group, justifies the fast-growing interest in the Middle East among mobile content firms. It noted that Saudi Arabia's Aljawal and Egypt's MobiNil sustained their top rankings, with 17.8 million and 16.3 million subscribers respectively.
Subs appear to be growing at the expense of fixed line markets. By 1H2008, cellular operators added around 18 million subscribers while all the fixed line operators added just 1.4 million mainlines.
