Also Windows Live Messenger and Hotmail.

Microsoft has launched a new mobile portal in China to promote its Bing search engine, as well as its Windows Live Messenger IM service and Hotmail.

The portal is offering mobile apps for Bing and Windows Live Messenger, according to PC World, along with instructions on accessing Hotmail from a mobile phone.

The move may help Bing to establish itself in China, where local firm Baidu and Google dominate the online search market.

With the Chinese mobile operators heavily promoting their new 3G networks, mobile search is likely to see a big upswing in the coming months. Whether Microsoft rather than its dominant rivals will capitalise remains to be seen.
